Arched Mesquite Entry Doors in Ebonized Mahogany Jamb A work in progress.
PART 2 - The Door With the completion of the jamb in Part 1, it's time to start on the two mesquite doors. The mesquite planks are air dried for 3 years in my yard and can look worn and weathered. I am starting with planks that are 3 1/2" thick, between 11" to 19" wide and average 9'-6" long. The largest plank weighed in at 220 lbs. and is bone dry, which is exactly what I want to make a stable door. Above is the 19" wide board, below are a couple of just slightly smaller planks. One 7" wide door stile is cut out of each plank. Once the wood is milled and the voids filled with black
tinted epoxy I have some nice looking dimensional lumber. Below are how the mesquite boards will be arranged on the two doors. The door panels are cut out of 4 book matched mesquite planks that start out at 16" wide. Below is the door frame and panel ready for a test assembly. The door below is dry clamped together and is almost complete, the molding detail will be cut next and once the panel is pre-finished the door will be glued up.
